Knowledge City

ESS-Bilbao is a project that transforms the city. Due to its size (one million people) and quality of life, Metropolitan Bilbao is a favourable environment to accommodate a project that strengthens the pillars of the new European Society: knowledge, innovation and the science-society dialogue.

The main actions planned in this area are the following:

Science-Society Space

Taking advantage of existing local infrastructures and the work of the ESS, for fostering the additional development of an authentic European Space for the Science-Society Dialogue in the form of a dynamic forum for debate between the science, technology and cultural sectors of Europe. A platform for the promotion of congresses, conferences and scientific and business events.

Reception and acclimatisation of people

Bilbao has Bizkaia: Xede; a public agency responsible for attracting and welcoming high-level individuals in order to generate a society based on knowledge and innovation.
The aim is to promote mechanisms for the reception of women and men who are taking part on a temporary or indefinite basis in any of the ESS-Bilbao projects; and to ensure excellent living and working conditions, together with a range of different possibilities for leisure, sport and culture.

The implementation of a Technology Interpretation Centre (BTEK)

Its main objective is to promote the scientific education and culture, to support the entrepreneurial and research values together with th eencouragement of scientific and technological vocations among the society.
